Hanable the CAN-able!
"Breaking news!" shouted the One News reporter.
"I'm here at the sight of an air crash, but not just any old one. This mysterious rubble of a bright green ship has been identified as… wait for it… A UFO! But yet, we're not alone…a local farmer believes to have had a very close encounter with an ALIEN ROBOT! While further inquiries are being made, police advise that residents stay inside and keep their doors locked!"
4 HOURS LATER…
"Beep…Beep… Beep……BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!"
"I knew it! My AWESOME tin detector never lets me down!" I shouted.
The further forward we ran, the louder those noisy beeps became.
And then, just as the detector scale had reached its highest point… my friend and I froze into a dead silence. There, standing right in front of us was a strange and shiny, silver robot!
"WOW!" I yelled at the top of my lungs. "A real life alien robot!"
"I'm no alien robot?! I'm a robot RE-CYCLING SUPER HERO! My name is Hanable the Canable! (That's HC for short). And I'm here to help restore your planet." The mysterious machine said.
I couldn't believe my eyes! "It... it talks!" I stammered.
"Yes, of course I talk. Why shouldn't I? This is how I spread the message.
"What message is that exactly?"I asked.
"Well, it's about helping to care for the in envioronment.
Suddenly, a bitter wind swept across the reserve. We all shivered. (Except for HC. I'm not sure he feels the cold).
"Hey, why don't we all go back to my place for milkshakes?" I suggested.
"No thank you" said HC, "I'm quite happy where I am".
We were on the way home when it started to rain. That's when a thought crept into my mind…
"What am I thinking"! I said aloud, "This is an eating, sleeping, talking, walking robot from outer space! Even the F.B.I is looking for him. WE COULD MAKE MILLIONS!!!
Right then, sirens screamed and lights flashed…
"WEEE-OHH! WEEE-OHH! WEEE-OHH!" About five police cars pulled into the clearing.
We hid behind the tree, and turned around. Suddenly, we bumped into a tall, strong man. His name was sheriff R.J. Brown. He was dressed in police uniform from head to toe. He scowled at me and reached out his arms and grabbed us both by the ears. We ran away, terrified.
Then he ran after us shouting, "Come back you boys, it's not safe out here. Why you little rascals, when I catch you…"!
"VOOOOSHHH!!!!" Hanable dashed out in front of the angry sheriff, lifted us up, and shot into the air as fast as a rocket headed for mars!
"You can fly too!" I shouted.
"You bet I can! Now lets get re-cycling!!!"

LOST RIDERS by Elizabeth Laird

Lost Riders is our class book at the moment. Here is a blurb:
"A gripping and heart stopping story, Lost Riders uncovers the shocking story of child slavery today. Rashid is eight when his uncle sells him and his younger brother to a man who promises him a new life in Dubai. But the promises are quickly broken; Rashid is separated from his bother and uncle, he is made to take a new name, and he is forced to work as a camel jockey in races with high stakes and a high price for failure. Rashid thinks of nothing but escape. Will he be able to get free and return home to Pakistan?"
The visualising sketch on our IWB was created by our fantastic artist and reader, Morgan.

Enemy at the Gate, Chapter 32

Morgan created this wonderful visualising sketch on the whiteboard as we read the final chapter of Enemy at the Gate. We all really enjoyed this book and loved the ending.

The Team 5 World Cup is heating up! While New Zealand gives it their best shot in South Africa, a smaller tournament is entertaining the Parkvale massive every lunchtime at 1pm.
