Ride of the katipo (Epilogue)

As Jack waded through the salty shallow water, his friends played on the beach. He thought of the crazy things that had happened over the years. Jack ran up to the beach in the search of food anything would do! "I am so hungry" screamed Jack as he stuffed food in his mouth! He was wondering if the angel of the sea church was built and the vicar was safe.
He said to his friend he is going to the church on the top of the hill to see the vicar "OK,'' they yelled. So he ran to the church. It was finished and to his amazement there was the vicar smiling and he yelled out "Jack, come in. Have lunch with me!"
"OK then. I hope it's good!'' Jack yelled back. When they were having lunch the vicar said "I've got another mystery for you!" So off went Jack to Shipwreck Bay, where his mystery started.

So look out for the next book. But it's going to be written by Olivia Mairs (me).

It had been five years since Jack Talbot had found the bodies from MV Kereru, five years since the fierce fire at shipwreck bay and The Angel of the Sea, five years since the last ride of the Katipo! The Reverend Earnslaw has now started to build a new Angel of the Sea. Suddenly Jack awoke with a start. His dad woke him. "Let's go for a swim down at Wetapunga."

Jack replied "yes! Meet you down in five minutes." Jack and his dad were back together and did everything together.

As for Ma Crocker, well let's just say things were bad but that is another story. Jack loved his life now. He had friends and a loving family with his dad and his step mum.

EPILOGUE

Jack stood out side the rebuilt church with the old vicar and a bucket of motorcycle polisher. “It looks good Jack. Well better than it did,” chuckled the vicar. It had been 9 months since the fire at Shipwreck Bay.

Jack was polishing his old friend because he was taking it down to Manuka flats with his blood red bandana and his oil skin coat to show all his mates. "Are you going to walk it down or ride it?"
"What do you think?” said Jack. Roar!!!!!

The ride of the Katipo!

Jack lay on the soft sand, sitting beside what used to be the body of the Katipo. Frightening thoughts started to appear in his brain. Just then a voice interrupted his thought.

“Jack breakfast is ready!” said his dad.  He could already taste the melted butter. As he dreamily walked up the steps he thought to himself “finally free at last”. Jack was right, Jack Talbot had stepped out of the shadows for the first time in 2 years.

Jack Talbot, the Katipo was a free and young man. As he was gliding in the air on the top of the hill, a sunrise was coming. As the sun rose Jack heard a voice below. The voice said “Jack time for breakfast”. It was the Vicar and his friends.

As he emerged out of the shadows Jack said this in his head “one year it has been, one year since I have had an adventure, one year I have been the Katipo and one year since the Katipo first… rode… again!”

We are coming to the end of our class book "The Ride of the Katipo" by Stu Duval. Today many of the children did some visualising sketches. Here is one by Bari created on the IWB and another by Amber created on a little whiteboard.

We are enjoying our class book "Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key". Today we drew quick visualising sketches while we finished chapter 5 "Make a Wish".

Stefan drew his sketch on the Interactive Whiteboard and did an inspiring job.

Famous 5 Solved Their Mystery

We finished our Famous 5 book and it all ended well for the gang and Wilfred. Raiha drew a neat visualising sketch on the IWB as we read the final chapter. Some of us drew sketches in our language books, while Reanna and Shannon provided great character voices.

I wonder what our next class book will be...

Famous 5 Visualising

Amber drew this outstanding sketch on the Interactive Whiteboard while we were reading Chapter 18 'A Most Exciting Time' from our class book, 'Five Have A Mystery To Solve'. We were all practising our reading strategy of visualising. This means creating a picture in our mind of what is happening in the text. This helps us understand the text better.

LOST RIDERS by Elizabeth Laird

Lost Riders is our class book at the moment. Here is a blurb:

The visualising sketch on our IWB was created by our fantastic artist and reader, Morgan.

Will

Dribble, dribble, dribble… as the sweat drips off Will's face. The hunters are shouting "dance monkey boy dance!!"

Nothing goes through Will's mind.

"DANCE!" says the hunter, getting angry but Will's too terrified to do what he says. The fear is running through Will's head like an electric zap.
