D-day. Vietnam

In 1944 the war called D-day started. 150.000 allied troops landed in France to make the Germans go back to Germany but the Germans had other plans to stay but it did not work the Americans had 50.000 dead the Germans had 154.000. The bombing run did not work for the US army,
In 1960 the US army went to war. It was called Vietnam. The US lost the war the NVA used nova 6. It was the most deadly weapon ever invented. You would die before you hit the ground. The US army use air support to match. The NVA got so many anti air guns. The US lost the war. The NVA won the war. The end?

At the moment Scotland is ranked 7th in the world behind Wales, England, France, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
The Scottish also competes in the six nations.
The teams in the six nations are: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Wales and Scotland.
On a high, their biggest win was against Japan where they won 100-8, then on a low their biggest loss was against South Africa where they lost 68-10.

Boom Bang!

Volcano

Boom Bang! A volcano had erupted and a big cloud of ash filled the sky. There was a big explosion! People looked up and screamed there were rocks blasting out of the volcano. They tumbled down. People ran away from the lava and rocks.

They called this a landslide because it destroyed the whole forest. They say that 57 people died from that. After the day it happened, the people hurt and cried. There was dry lava everywhere, everyone was picking up ash and rocks.

It was really sad. It happened in 1980 on May 18th.

Whaling

WHALING IN NEW ZEALAND

Did you know whaling was once big business in New Zealand?

Whaling was big back in 1791 because there were heaps of whales and they killed about 50,000 a year.

Why were whales hunted?

Whales were hunted for their Baleen which was used for corsets and whips. Ambergris was an ingredient in the expensive perfumes. Oil was used for lamps and machinery.

Ship and shore whaling

There were two ways to catch whales.

  • Ship whaling:
The earliest whaling was done from ships, when the lookout spotted a whale in the sea he sent a boat to sail after it and they armed with harpoons and big powerful men and when they caught the whale they cut the blubber off with sharp whaling spades.

  • Shore whaling:
When the lookouts on shore saw a whale, the gangs of men jumped into their boats and rowed after it. They would harpoon the whale and drag it back to shore.

    Conclusion

Not many people kill whales now because they are endangered, but the Japanese still do it. But they have big fancy boats and they catch two at a time.
